  1. My book is Speak. So far, my story is about a girl, Melinda, who is now an outcast because she called the cops on a end of summer party. All of her old friends now hate her. Its not even just her friends, some people hate her from afar. The reasons behind her calling the police are not known by anyone, but she is keeping the secret of why she did what she did. I really don't understand why all of her friends hate her. They have been friends since elementary school, yet they are so quick to shut Melinda out of their lives. They don't even know the reasoning of her actions, and astill decide to hate her. I think that Melinda's friends should talk to her and try to figure out why she did that. If I were one of Melinda's friends, I would try to understand. Even though I would be mad at first, I would try to get over it. This is what I think the friends should do, get over it.

  2. Now, Melinda's only friend, Heather, has left her. Heather was a new girl, and Melinda was the only one to let her in. Melinda's grades are slipping, everyone hates her, and she has even resulted to cutting herself. If I were her at this point, I would try to talk to someone. There is a guy that keeps bothering her, and she calls him IT. I am guessing that he had something to do with why she called the cops. My prediction is that he raped her, abused her, or drugged her or something. If this is or is not ture, I still think that she should get some help.Even though it might be hard, I just think that she really should try to be brave and tell someone. Even if she just tried to talk to her old friends about it, I think they would understand her actions. This would probably help to turn her life around. Her friends would probably take her in, which would help her to get through this, help her gain friends, and improve her grades.

  3. The book I'm reading is called Water for Elephants. It's a love story that takes place in the early 1900's and is about a young boy in college to become part of the family veternary center. This all changes when both parents die in a tragic car crash, and he realizes his parents were in total debt, and he lost everything. When he goes wandering he finds a train that he decides to climb aboard while moving. He then finds out this a circus train. He ends up working for the circus and falls in love with the owner's wife, a much older and sophistacated woman than he used to. He tries to figure out a way to save this woman from her abusive controlling husband. What I don't understand about this is why they wouldnt leave the circus all togetherand start a life with eachother. That's something i'm hoping to figure out.

  4. The book I have chosen to read for this quarter is 3rd Degree, once again by James Patterson. This book continues off of the last one with, yet again, another crazy murderer rampaging through the city killing certain targets for a 'good cause'. Right now the first two people have been killed, and I can see the plot beginning to form sort of like the last book, where the first two killings are not extremely related to Lindsay, but the killings get more personal. However, the first two killings in this book are obviously linked and the killer is shouting out their cause right away, compared to when the killings weren't so obviously linked in the last book. The only thing seperating this book from the last seems to be only the motives and organiztion.

  5. I think the relationship between Jacob and the elephant he takes care of is interesting because it's complex and hard to understand, but it makes sense. He went to school to take care of animals, he loves the compassion the elephant shows towards him that he misses from his parents, and he can trust this single animal in his life that is now full of liars and uncertainty. That is one thing that drew my attention to this book is the relationship not only between him and Marlena, but the trust and wisdom he gains as a person, from these animals as he works in the circus.

  6. So far in my book Cold as Ice, Genevieve Spencer went on Harry Van Dorn's boat to get him to sign papers that her boss gave her. He was fixed on making her stay for the night, which she happened to do. The next day she awoke and everything seemed wrong. She couldn't find Harry Van Dorn anywhere. The only person she finally encountered was a man who was certainly trying to cause trouble to her. She managed to escape but then ran into Peter Jensen. Peter told her she had to be quiet so he could do his job and kill Harry and if she got in the way he would have to kill her too.

  7. If i were Genevieve right now i would be terrified. Peter just told her he would have to kill her to someway so he didn't mess up on his job. If i was her i would try to escape. I think it would be kind of hard to do that because they are on a boat and there is no way escaping. The only chance she has is if she just stays calm.

  8. My novel is called The Book thief, and the main character, Liesel, is a foster child whose goal is to learn how to read. While traveling to her foster parent’s place, her younger brother dies on the train ride there, which left Liesel emotionally scarred. So far, Liesel has been waking up screaming from nightmares about her dead brother. What I do not understand is how her mother couldn’t keep her children, and how Liesel’s mother didn’t even respond to her letter. I think if her mother had given them up for financial reasons she should’ve been able to reply to Liesel’s letter. I don’t know how her mother could just let Liesel go without checking on her every so often, especially after her son’s death. This makes me wonder why the mom had to give up her children, even if they weren’t for the best reasons.

  9. The name of my book is “The Cruisers.” I’ve read a few pages now and this is how the book starts out. The Cruisers is a book about a small gang that gets in trouble in school and starts fights all the time. The four gang members are in a very big academy named Da Vinci Academy. The four people in the gang are very strange and like to cause trouble. The principle doesn’t think they try in school because they are only thinking about trouble.

  10. My book is called The Dream Bearer by Walter Dean Myers. In the story I don't like the father. I don't like him because he’s an alcoholic and makes his kids do stuff they shouldn't have to do. He will come home at anytime of the night and make them do some kind of work for him. The father also makes the mom feel very sad throughout the story so far. I feel bad for the kids because they don't know what is wrong with their dad and they really want to figure it out.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think the relationship between Liesel and her father is interesting because he tries to teach Liesel how to read in the early hours of the morning, after she’s woken from a nightmare. It’s interesting to see how much they care for each other, and how Liesel’s father handles Liesel’s bed wetting hysterics. Liesel seems to enjoy whenever her father plays the accordion, which is a lot throughout the beginning. Her new mother, on the other hand, is harsh with her words towards everyone in and out of the house. The mom likes to swear in German most of the time. She doesn’t show her feelings towards Liesel as much as Liesel's father, but there are times when it’s easy to see she cares.

  12. The book that I am reading is 10 Things To Do Before I Die. From what I have read so far I dont really understand how Ted Burger knows for sure that he Is going to die during his spring break. Ted went with his parents on his 16th birthday to the Hong Phat Noodle House. After he was done eating he got a fortune cookie that said "You will never have much of a future if you look for it in a cookie at a Chinese Restaurant". I dont understand how he knows that he is going to die because it is just a fortune cookie and anyone could get it. As Ted said this is the story of his death and he will not live to see seventeen.

    ReplyDelete
  13. If I was the character Ted Burger I would be the most terrified person to know that I am going to die before I turn seventeen. I think that I would try to accomplish everything I could before that day came. I think that would be the scariest news to here if you were just a normal sixteen year old kid that goes to a restaurant and gets this bad news. Also I think that would be the worst way to find out that you are going to die.

  14. My book is called Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. This book tells the story about a young man named Christopher Johnson McCandles who leaves everything behind to go to Alaska to state a new life and find himself. I don't really like how the book is told by other people. It is kind of hard to follow along with what it going on in the story. I like how there is a good description of the woods and what is going on.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Right now in the story Into the Wild, some hunters and hikers came across Christophers rotting body in a sleeping bag in one of the old busses put by mines for miners. I wish that the Author would have told you that he died at the end of the book and Christoper would have like told his story through journal entries or somthing like that.

  16. The book I am reading is part of the Narnia series and the book is called The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. So far it is about Lucy and Edmund and their cousin Eustace. They were looking at a picture when they felt a wind and water coming from the picture and it got bigger. They all fell through the picture and landed in the sea where there was a boat they jumped on found out that they were back in Narnia. I dislike the character Eustace because he is complaining the whole time about being on the boat and not being able to go home. I think he is going to get worse as the book goes on and they stay on the ship longer.

  17. My book is called Death by bikini. So far it is about a young girl named Aphra. She lives on an island with her father. On this island is a hotel where celebrities and parents go to get away. Aphra works there and gets homes schooled there as well. She tries not to makes friends because they just leave. So one day she was working at the desk and a man comes in with his wife and super attractive son. Aphra’s father goes to greet them and the man whispers something in her father ear. Then her father’s smile and he tells her to leave. What I am wondering is if the family is in trouble or threatened him.

  18. Right now in my book the Captain is Prince Caspian which Edmund and Lucy helped out in the last book so they all remembered each other. I think this scene is important because I think they are going to be working together again. They are going to go on another adventure to find something and Lucy and Edmund and going to be stuck helping him again. I think, as we get further in the book Eustace will eventually help out with them too. This is going to be the main plot and conflict in the book as the book continues.

    ReplyDelete
  19. What I like about this book so far is how they make it sound like a teenagers view point. But I would hate not being able to see any friends or even have any. Aphra doesn’t even have her mom because when they decided to move onto the island her mother didn’t come with them because Aphra’s father didn’t want her mother come. Aphra’s mother was very adventurous and outgoing .So a lot of times things were not safe for her .So Aphra’s father had her convinces that he mother left her.

  20. This part in my book seems unrealistic because the kids wouldn't be reporters. These kids are reporters for tons of professional games. They are currently reporting on the World Series. They get to go in the locker room after the games. This seems totally unrealistic. If this was real I would like to go in the locker room after the games. But it would be hard to get in.

    ReplyDelete
  21. This section makes me think about after all professional games. This is because after all professional games there is a press conference. At these press conferences are reporters which would be the kids. I think it would be sweet to be in one of them. I think this because you would be there in person and get to see everything. This is why this section reminds me of all of the press conferences after the games.

  22. As the story in 3rd Degree progresses, I wonder often why people would take such violent actions against a few nasty business figures. Why wouldn't they try their hardest to find an illegal action and take them to court before resorting to violent killing? If that doesn't work, start a movement against them and gain large, public attention and boycott their products or services. The world has enough problems on its hands, and killing some bigshot business figures only causes more chaos on a local/statewide scale.

  23. The book that I am reading is called A Thousand Acres. So far my book is about this guy who owns 640 acres of land in Iowa. He has three daughters; two of them are living in houses with their husband that he bought from the neighbors just down the road. Rose has 2 daughters that go to a private school in another town and Ginny has no kids. Ginny and Rose both help out with the hog farm and take care of their dad by making him breakfast. The rest of the section talks about how a neighbor boy returns to the town after being gone for 13 years. It is also how Ginny’s dad interacts with the neighbor and what he is planning on doing to expand the farm. I don’t understand why Rose would send her daughters so far away from their hometown. I dislike the writing because it is very confusing and it jumps around a lot from different topics.

  24. As I am getting father into the book Caroline the third sister gets her father mad and she ends up going back to Des Moines because he wasn’t allowing her into his house. The kid Jess who was gone for 13 years is now staying with Larry, the guy with the three daughters. When Ginny is at her dad’s house she finds out what Jess has been doing for the last 13 years. Larry is now looking around at different construction places that could help with his expansions of the hogs. Jess then told Ginny that his fiancé died 6 years ago in a car crash. When his fiancé was still around he would call her parents and say that he was going to kill them. I don’t understand why he would say that to his possible parent in laws. Jess also drank a lot and this reminds me about a different book that I read and the mother was also a heavy drinker.

  25. I, Ben, am reading yet another book about cats. This time, it's about many cats, and their stories. The book's name is: "Dewey's Nine Lives." The book tells many stories about Dewey and other cats, that are like Dewey. It also tells the stories of the humans who interacted with the cats. So far, it has been a good read, and it show's good emotions, but it has sad parts, too. It really show's, so far, how special cats can be. This book tells true stories about these cats.

  26. My book is called Crackback. The book is about a kid being a wide receiver. I really don't understand why Miles Manning’s coach Stahl is always mean to him. He yells at him for not catching the football how coach Stahl wants him to. His dad told him to catch one way but his dad wants him to catch the way his coach wants him to.

  27. The first story in "Dewey's Nine Lives" was about a cat named Tobi. Tobi was a very shy and easily-frightened cat, that needed love. The owner of the cat, did give her love, but when the cat's end came, she wasn't there for Tobi. I didn't really like that. The owner would rather read the bible and focus on religious crap, and leave her old cat alone. But she did show remorse, when she brought her into the Vet, and it was time to put Tobi down. Tobi thought everything was alright, so she relaxed in her owner's arms, but as soon as that needle pricked her, she yowled in pain and terror, and Tobi looked up at her owner with an expression that said: "why?," then she passed away. The yowel the cat made, was like nothing she had ever done before. This made the owner feel horrible. Made me sad just reading and thinking about it. But then there was Dewey to cheer her up, and teach her to let go of the past. Dewey always knew when someone has had something bad happen to them, and knew when to comfort people who need it the most.

  28. I am reading this book called, "Dirty Little Secrets". It's about this girl named Lucy, who is seventeen and is trying to live with her totally insane mother. Her mom always blames Lucy for her problems when she didn't even do anything in the first place. While Lucy is dealing with her mom she is also trying to live a normal teenage life, which includes friends, building relationships, and planning on going off to college soon. She knows that it won't be easy, considering her family is falling apart, but she is willing to try.

    ReplyDelete
  29. So far in my book Lucy just got asked out by the guy of her dreams, she thinks it is too good to be true, but she doesn't really care and wants to make it last as long as possible. But one day when she came home from a sleep over she found her mother dead on the floor in the middle of the hallway with her asthma inhaler juist out of her reach. Lucy thinks that her mon had an asthma attack and wasn't able to live. Right now Lucy is very scared and doesn't know what to do next.

  30. The team has the first home game. Everyone is excited for the first game. Their home jerseys are white and the away jerseys are blue. Coach Stahl reminds me of my uncle because he always yells at you for something is not done his way. He yells for the stupidest reason. He yells at something for not doing what he what him to. Like Stahl my uncle yells for no reason at all. They both can be a nice person if you do everything they want.

  31. In my book I don't understand if the dad is really a drunk or not. I can really tell because he seems like only has got drunk one night, I can't till if what he does is a every night occurance. We'll find out when I read on to till if he is actually a drunk.

  32. in my book so far my understinding is that one of the characters is Max. Max is from Maximum ride but she is the Max from the before the books. In this book she has to save a friend from the school. The School is were they take human dna and dna from other animals and create this new type of person. Like Max She is a bird hybrid.

  33. In my book so far, Billy was just walking home from a good day of work. As Billy is walking he sees two dogs that are fighting, and the dog that was winning had no intention of stopping the fight. Billy felt that he had an obligation to stop these dogs because it reminded him to much of his childhood. Billy rushed over to the dogs and shooed the big dog away. As he came up to the second other dog he noticed that the dog had cuts and wounds all over his body. Billy brought the dog home, cleaned him, and also gave it some food. I can't wait to read more about Billy and his adventure.

  35. My book is called shooting star. The book is about a football player who wants to be better. I think an important setting in the book is when the team is on the bus ride home from their last game. I think it is important because the coach calls Jomo(the main character) up to the front of the bus so they can talk. The coach gives Jomo an important talk and tells him that he has the skills to be a good football player, but he doesn't have the heart. I also think this is important because it shows that the coach cares about his players.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Now that I have read the first couple chapters of my book, the characters are really starting to show what they are really like. The relationship between Jomo and Jayson is pretty interesting. I think it is interesting because Jayson is an all around good football player. He has all the skills and the heart of a great player. Jomo looks up to Jayson because they have been best friends since they were little. Jomo wants Jayson to help him be a good football player and help him get stronger.

  37. I am reading the novel Swimsuit, by James Patterson. So far it is about this girl, Kim McDaniels, who was kidnapped, then brutally raped and murdered by this guy. So far I haven't found out the name of the killer, but he had only raped and killed her to make a video. He made the video to sell it for a lot of money to a bunch of people in another country. But the people want more video's and better ones. In the video the buy wears a mask that is clear but it still blurs out his facial features so that nobody can know who he is. I wonder what will happen next, and if he is going to make another video. This section makes me think about whether or not this could be a true story because it could actually happen in real life.

    ReplyDelete
  38. This post is in response to Denton’s first post about the football player getting talked to by a coach. I know a lot of football players that can be really good that don't want to try hard at all. Then when you don’t try hard you end up losing all the skill they could possibly have. This even happens at the High School level. This has even happened to kids on my team. That’s why if your involved in a sport you really have to try, and should really care.

    ReplyDelete
  39. After reading a little bit more I have learned that the name the killer goes by is Henri Benoit, but this is not his real name. Now in the story the killer has called Kim’s parents and told them that they needed to fly out to Hawaii as soon as possible because their daughter had fallen into the wrong hands. He is now planning to kill the parents as well, to make a better video. This part in the book is very realistic because the McDaniels are very worried about their daughter because she has gone missing. I know if any of my family members went missing I would be very worried as well.

  40. My Story is called When the Wind Blows. This is a book that was made before Maximum ride. The Maximum ride books are about these people who are animal hybrids. The hybrids consist of birds and wolves. The bird/human creatures try to run away from the school which is a science lab where they make the creatures, and the wolves are programmed to catch the birds and bring them back.

  41. In my book the father seems like he is going to be mean to the kids in the long run. I think this because in the first part of the book it seems like he makes them do stuff when he is out drinking. The author doesn’t specifically say it but the dad seems like a drunk. And in most stories when the father is a drunk he ends up being really mean to his kids. So my prediction for the rest of the book is the father is going to yell a lot at his kids. I hope doesn’t happen because the kids are good kids.

  42. My book is Spiral. It is about this girl named Abby, she was at work one day when her boss asked her to climb up unsafe shelves and change a light bulb. Once Abby got to the top of the shelves she could not reach the light bulb. Abby had to stand up on the swaying shelves, which made the shelves tip over and made her fall onto the cement floor and brake her back. The fall left Abby paralysed from the waste down.

  44. My main character Aphra is a very adventurous girl. She is very much like her mother. From what has been said in this story so far it seems as though the relationship between Aphra and her mother was strong. So what I do not understand is how a relationship so strong can be divided. Even Aphra does not seem to understand. She talks about how she thought less of herself because of her mother’s decision to leave her and her father. So why would she leave?

    ReplyDelete
  45. My character lives on an island with her father. They run a hotel on this island and many people come here to get away. Like celebrities and parents. Rarely do children ever come along as well. So is that the main reason why this boy seems so special? Or is there really something different about him? I also think it is interesting how she choice get associate with him even though he scared her farther when he whispered in his ear.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't understand why Abby went to drugs when she broke her back. She had great friends and a good life. Even if she was unable to walk from the waste down. Her friends would have tried their hardest to give her a normal life.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I wonder what it is like to be paralized from the waste down. I do not think I would be able to handle it. I would stay inside not knowing what to do because everything I love to do are things I need my legs for. Like football it is my life, I would go into depression if I did not have football. Maybe that is why Abby started drugs, she didn't know what to do next.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I like the Abb because she faught hard threw the pain of breaking her back. At first she got into drugs, bu when her dad caught her doing crack he put her into a camp for helping kids into drugs. The camp got her back ito her old love with horses. She learned how to clean, take care of, and ride the horses. Abby feels like the horses love her just as much as she loves them. The love of the horses got her off drugs and back to hanging out with her friends.

  49. Apra was tired after a long day of working at the hotel. She after that goes into an ocean with rapid waves. She gets sucked under by the waves. I am wondering if she will fall for him and if so if she would get hurt in the long run.

  50. I think the relationship between Genevieve and Peter is confusing. It is confusing because first they are being some what nice to eachother and then the next they are furious with one another. Well I guess giving the circumstances Genevieve is in I would be furious with him too. Their relationship has a lot of ups and downs. They are not dating or together. I wouldn't even consider them friends. Yet, they do have a unique realtionship. Peter's job is to kill Genevieve and she has to figure a way out.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Aphra had ran to the girl laying on the beach and saw that she was died. The only reason she had gone into the ocean was because Aphra had told the girl that the pool was nothing compared to the ocean. So the girl had listened to Aphra. The girl had the strings of her bikini wrapped around her neck chocking her to death. How do you think she died? Do you think if Aphra would not have said that the ocean was better she would still be alive?

    ReplyDelete
  52. I like Genevieve because even in a very tough situation she still remains calm. She knows she is going to be killed one way or another but yet she still tries to escape. Also, she tries her best to make Peter mad which is very brave since he is the one who has to kill her. I think since she is testing Peter. I think she is really brave and knows how to handle a bad situation when it comes.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I do not know what is going on with Abby. She has came so far in her addiction to crack but she threw it all away. I liked how she was doing so good in beating the addiction but she just tried to run away from the camp to find crack. I thought she was going to be storng and stay positive about beating her addiction.

    ReplyDelete
  54. This is turning out to be a really good book. It is because Abby has turned herself around from her last craving of crack and is back on the right path. I admire Abby because she only had one fault in her whole stay at the camp. She met a friend that was in her exact postion and she got over her addiction. I have a friend like that and it does help alot. It is the friend who is always by your side no matter what you do they will be there to put you back on the right track. I believe that if it wasn't for a best friend like that. I think Abby would not be as far as she is right now.

  55. In my story Aphra now finds out that he was not who he says he was. They are a runaway family that needed a place to stay. His family knew Aphra’s mother .So that is why they ended up hiding there. But what I didn’t understand is why Aphra’s mother would leave them and then on top of it send someone to their island that they didn’t even know. Later I found out that her mother had been writing Aphra and trying to tell her she did not want to leave but she needed to. Aphra’s father had been hiding them from her. Why do you think he was hiding them?

  57. Julie…In my story my main character’s family fell apart as well because her mother did some very dangerous things. So their family had been divided. My main character, Aphra does not have to deal with the teen-age things your character has to deal with though. She has to deal managing an exotic hotel on an island. So she doesn’t get to hang out with friends or have that kind of drama in her life like your character.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Micayla Moynihan...I think the relationship between Adam and Aphra is really confusing as well. Like he was not who he says he was and lied to her about his identity. She eventually finds out and still wants to be with him. But in the end he has to keep running and gives her a really ugly ring. At the very end he kisses her good-bye. So I don’t know if they will ever see each other again or if there first kiss will be there last.

  59. Zack Bradley..my character was kind of like yours besides the fact that my character, Peter, killed people as a job and yours did crack. At the end Peter changed his life. He stopped killing people for a job. I think the main reason he did stop was because of Genny. She had a huge effect on his life.
