I'm reading the book "Starclimber". In the part I am on Matt is being trained to be an astralnaut and is facing trials against one hundred other men. He is trying really hard to get to space. This scene reminds me of a similar scene in Airman because Victor Vigny was trying to get into the air before he died. If I were Matt I would be putting my best foot forward. I don't like Bronfman because he is overly cocky and downright annoying. I wish that Matt didn't have to pretend that he doesn't know Kate because it seems to be on his mind. -Devin
I didn't like the fact that Matt didn't get picked as first choice. He worked really hard for it and was severely disappointed. Other bad news is that Kate is now engaged, and not to Matt. He seems to be heartbroken although Kate said she was just using it to get to space. I really wish she didn't do that because it will cause a lot of conflict in Matt. Kate is overly ruthless and probably found a way on the ship even if she didn't pretend to agree to marriage. She had better fix the problem or else Matt is going to be depressed and not be able to do as well on the ship as he would have with Kate. This is not turning out well for Matt. -Devin
In the book “A Man Named Dave” so far I don’t really like that they go back and talk about the first book in the series, it gets kind of confusing when it skips from one part to another. If it would repeat apart of the second book it would be better. Just to recap what all happened in at the end of the second book. But I do like how the book does explain what has all happened throughout David’s life. Like how he went from “David,” to “The Boy,” to “It.”
My independent book project is called Things Not Seen. The main characters name is Bobby, right now he woke up from bed, did his usually thing and can’t see himself. He can see everything else but he himself and others can’t see him. It is like he is invisible. The one problem he has is he does not know how he got this way or why. His parents are really smart but even they don’t know what is going on or what to do.- Stephanie Carbaugh
I am reading the book Crescent Dawn by Clive Cussler. The main character is Dirk Pitt and I admire him because he attempted to stop a museum robbery. Even though he was not successful, he still hunted down the thieves and recovered some of the stolen relics. He believes that he tried his best and that is all that mattered to him and I am sure he will get the rest of the relics back. I am sure there are more suprises awaiting me as I read on in the book. Joe
If I were Dirk at this point of the story I would get out of the city becuase they are being tracked by a group of extremists. These people were also behind the theft in the museum of Muhammad's artifacts. I would also go out and start looking for the remainder of the artifacts. The reason I would go out and look for these artifacts is because they are of significant importance to the Islamic faith. I believe that there are going to be many clues in the book that are going to give clues about where to find these missing artifacts. Joe
The dad in Things Not Seen is an interesting character. He is really smart and likes to be right. He also says “bingo” a lot. For example when he was trying to figure out what to say to his son, who is invisible right now, he said “bingo” after almost every point. The dad seems like he can be annoying sometimes, especially when he is trying to be smart by using all these different examples of physics. Therefore the dad is an interesting character. -Stephanie Carbaugh
I am reading the book "Dragon" by Clive Cussler. I do not understand the main point of the book, which is that some Japanese businessmen are pretty much trying to buy everything in the world. The only problem with them doing this is that some countries do not want to be completely owned by foreign people. So the countries are shutting down any foreign businesses in their country. While this makes sense, the reaction of the Japaneses businessmen is does not. They went and hid over 100 nuclear bombs in over 25 different countries, with the intentions of threatening to blow them up if the countries will not let them buy things. It makes sense that they would do SOMETHING to be able to buy again, but why would they put nuclear bombs in major cities and kill millions of innocent people? Do they know that if everyone is dead then nobody can buy the stuff they are selling? And if they nuke the stuff they are trying to buy it is now worthless? I do not understand that.
In my book, there was a massive underwater complex that some people used for research. I really dislike that idea because it just doesn't make sense. Why would they build a massive base at the bottom of the ocean, where the pressure is enough to instantly kill somebody if they are in the water? Also, how would they build it? They would have to get materials and equipment and people down to a place where people cannot go without dieing. Also, if there was the smallest leak anywhere in the entire base, water would soon widen the gap and come rushing in before the people even knew what was going on. Later in the book, the place got leveled because a rock fell on it and made a hole in the biggest room, but I just don't see why they would build it in the first place.
I am reading the book Warriors The New Prophecy Midnight. If I were Brambleclaw I would tell the clan about the dream that I had about the new prophecy. I say this because this prophecy seems to be a big key in the future of the entire forest. Also if I shared this with the clan leader Firestar he could have brought it up at the gathering so the whole forest knows. It makes me feel nervous when he keeps these dreams that are thought to be omens to himself. I am worried that if keeps them in to long he will indirectly kill his clan and possibly the entire forest.
I am reading a novel called Halo, and what I really liked about my novel so far, is that the author had Bethany go to school just like all the regular kids. Bethany has a rough first day at High School, but thats normal. What I don't like sofar, would be that Bethany's brother Gabriel and her sister Ivy, do not want her to be involved with any human, they don't even want her to talk to them. What I noticed about Bethany's character, is that she always wants to please her siblings, she always wants to make them happy, even if it's not the same for her. But sofar I really like the book.
In the beginning of Halo, an unrealistic part of this book is when Bethany and her siblings are flying over their new neighborhood, when they could easily be seen. I know that this is a fantasy novel, but I think the author could have made a few changes. What I wished would have happened, would be that they were not seen and had landed by their home, and not have scared a kid delivering newspapers. What I did like, was that Bethany had a hard time adjusting to her new body. Since she apparently is an angel, and is still confused on some things, I thought this was good.
I am reading Witch and Wizard by James Patterson. So far Whit and Wisty Allgood have been accused of being a witch and a wizard. People from the New Order have kidnapped them and taken them to this place, almost like a jail. I am not sure exactly what it is. But when they are being taken from their houses reminds me of a scene from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. When Harry, Ron, and Hermione were taken by the snatchers to the Malfoy mansion. Because they are, in both books, being taken against their wills and both are being accused of being someone or something. Harry is being accused of being Harry Potter and they want to hand him over to the Dark Lord and Whit and Wisty are being accused of being a witch and wizard and they want to hang them. So people are planning to kill them also in both books. -Brook Bignell
In my book Witch and Wizard by James Patterson if I were Whit or Wisty Allgood I would be freaked out at this point. If I was kidnapped from my house in the middle of the night, put on trial and convicted of being a witch or wizard, and then told when I am 18 I will be hanged. I would be so confused and then I would probably start trying to put facts together. I would also probably be very angry, wondering about my parents and about the fact that I know nothing about witchcraft or wizardry or even what they are talking about. They didn’t even give them a chance to say anything to defend themselves. -Brook Bignell
Squirrelpaw is an apprentice that concerns me very much. She concerns me because she is very annoying and she has gotten very close to getting hurt because of it. Also she doesn’t know when to keep her mouth shut. She smarts off to almost every warrior in the clan but especially to Brambleclaw. This makes me upset because I do not like it when someone is supposed to be learning but they think they are better and don’t have to listen.
The book that I am reading is Hero by Mike Lupica. The main character is Zach Harriman. Zach is just a normal teenaged kid with a really cool dad. Zach's dad Tom Harriman works for the government and goes on special missions for the government. Zach really looks up to his dad but his dad is always gone on work so he never gets to see him. Tom is a very famous person so everybody knows him. Zach always gets a lot of attention at school because of his dad but Zach still doesn't realize how special his dad is though.
After reading the next couple chapters in my book I just found out that Zach's dad has been killed in a plane crash. Zach has been taking this really hard. He keeps having flash backs of what his dad said they were going to do together like go to NBA basketball games and stuff. Now Zach cannot experience those things because his dad is gone. Zach has been attending some therapy but that didn't work out so well so he is done with that now. Some of Zach's friends at school are feeling sorry for him and are saying everything is going to be okay. The plane crash was just an accident but Zach doesn't think so. Right now Zach is doing research on his dad's plane crash to find out what really happened.
I am reading the book "Gauntlegrym". In the book the main characters are King Bruenor, Drizzt Do'Urden, Dahila Sin'felle, Herzgo Alegni, and Barrabus the assassin. So, far King Breunor and Drizzt have gone looking for the lost homeland of the Delzoun dwarves. I really don't understand why Bruenor is searching for Gauntlgyrm. The character Drizzt kind of reminds me of the character Eragon. As for Dahil, i have no idea what she is up to in this book. And, Herzgo Alegni wants to control all of Neverwinter.
After a couple of chapters, Bruenor and Drizzt found a secret entrence to a lower level of a cave that might lead to what Bruenor is in search for. I think the relationship between King Bruenor and Drizzt is interesting because it seems like they have been friends for more than a century. The character I most admire is King Bruenor because he is following his dream, and searching for a place of legend. So far, the book doesn't give me any details about what is going to happen further in the book.
I am reading the book "Conspiracy 365". In the book the main character Cal is told by an unkown man that somebody has killed his father and that he must stay hidden for 365 days so they don't kill him. I don't understand how hiding for a year will keep him alive. What happens when the year ends? Cal reminds me of Alex Rider from Point Blanc because they both have the same visual characteristics and they both are into solving mysteries. So far the book doesn't make sense to me.
Later on in my book "Conspiracy 365", Cal and his uncle are flipped over in a boat by a huge storm and Cal is stuck tredding water while his uncle is know where near him. Cal is rescued by a helicopter moments before he is attacked by two sharks. If a where Cal at that point, I would of been scared out of my mind from the two sharks coming at me. I think this scene kept the book interesting to me.
The book I am reading is called "Love, Rosie." It is about these two people, Alex and Rosie, who are best friends growing up in Dublin, Ireland. They always get in trouble in school because they constantly send notes and instant message each other while the teacher isn't looking. When Alex turns 18, his father gets a job in Boston, and Alex moves away leaving Rosie to communicate with him only through letters and emails. If my best friend were to move to another country, I don't think I would have dealt with it as easy as Rosie did. For a while,I would probably be mad at my friend for moving away from me, and I would try and stay distant from them. At the same time though, I can see how Rosie wouldn't want to lose Alex as a friend because she doesn't really have any others.
In "Love, Rosie.", the years have been going by in chunks. Alex was supposed to come home to go to the Debs, a prom type occasion, to visit Rosie for the first time since he moved away. Alex's flight ends up getting canceled, so Rosie is forced to go to the Debs with a guy she hates, Brian. She gets really drunk at the dance, and three weeks later she finds out that she is pregnant. She doesn't tell Alex for a while and stays really distant from him. This part makes me mad because Alex still doesn't know that she went to the Debs with Brian, and she just leaves him hanging. I wish she would have told Alex instead, because I think that he would have come home right away before college started and visited her. I'm sure that Rosie is embarrassed and probably blames Alex for it a little, but she still should have told him. That is what I would have done.
I'm reading "Baking Cakes in Kigali" and it's about a women in Kigali who owns a bakery and is known around the country for her outstanding cakes. An ambassador from the country comes to buy a cake for her anniversary. They gossip about people and chat about their lives. The girls start talking about an illness spreading throughout the countries nearby. Angel, the bakery owner is worried about her friends getting the illness. The people of Kigali are trying to hide it from the other countries. I don't understand why they would do that. If they told people of this illness, wouldn't that get the citizens help?
Bosco, Angel's friend came over to visit. He starts talking about this girl he likes again. Her name is Linda and Bosco and Linda have had a history before. Bosco and Linda used to date, but Bosco ended it because she was not treating him well. She made him clean up after her all the time and he cheated on her. Now, he seems to be falling for her again. I'm wondering why and how? She is obviously not a good person to associate with, but he doesn't seem to care. Another reason why Bosco came over was because he wanted Angel to make a cake for his sister's baby girl. She was just born and they were having a baptisim for her. They named the girl, Goodenough. They named her this because they really wanted a boy and got a girl instead. I think that is extremely mean of them to do that to her. She will be made fun of all the time and she won't feel loved. Goodenough is not a good name for a child.
Friday, April 22, 2011Jordan's Journal Well hello there guys and gals! Well if you didn't know yet, I'm reading a book. Yeah, its called, SWIM THE FLY. I'm on page 100 and I can't explain how hilarious this whole book is! Just for future reference- its a whole new, different type of funny book. Its about these 3 guys, Matt, Sean, and Coop while on summer break. They're all around the age of 15. They have only 2 more months of summer, and each summer they always have a goal. Their "GOAL" for this year is to see a real nude girl! Now don't tell me that guys wouldn't pick up this book just by that statement alone. These same 3 guys are also on the swim team. While at practice once, a new girl joined the team from one of their competing teams. Her name is Kelly. Matt looked at her and thought, "This can't be her from last year? I mean from going not hot to real hot!" So far I would recommend this amazing book to mostly guys. But the funny thing is that I went to this website called guysread.com and all the comments were from girls. So I guess if girls want to know what goes inside a typical guys mind, then I would read it.
In my book, SWIM THE FLY, Matt took an energy drink from the closet which was next to the laxative pill cans. He drank it and went jogging to get ready to build up muscles to swim the fly better in practice. Later on he went to Sean's house to hear their plan of finding a nude girl. They're planning on dressing up in Sean's sister's dresses. Then they will get into the girls locker room to try to catch Mandy Reagan nude. Which when they do this, they're almost caught.
I am responding to Henry's 2nd post. In one of Clive Cussler's other books they had an underwater lair just like the one you described. He told about how they built it. He mentioned that they took giant pieces of the research facility on giant cargo boats and dropped them over the edge of the boat. Once they dropped them over the edge they pieced them together. Then they dragged the research facility out to position with the boats. I realize this may sound unrealistic, but it may happen in the dear future.
I like Dirk Pitt because he is adventurous and daring. Even though he is a scientist for NUMA, he is not afraid to get his hands dirty and save the day. I like him because he doesn't care what anyone thinks about him. He refuses to give up on finding the truth. He seems like an every day kind of guy I would hang out with in real life.
The setting in the story is important because it is set in Topkapi, Turkey. This where the action in the whole book takes place. When they find an Ottoman ship wreck near the island of Sicily, they worry that the Sicilians will claim custody of the ship because it is in their part of the Aegean Sea. But they haven't told the Sicilians they have foudn the wreck because it will cause alot of conflict between the two countries. All of the action so far has taken place in a small peninsula near the Black Sea in Turkey.
The book "Shooter" is boring so far because there just intervewing Cameron to see why he and his friends shoot the people at school. The interviewer is trying to see why they would do such a thing. This scene reminds me of the Columbine shooting. I can't relate to this character because he is a bad guy and he shot up a school. The character I admire is Richard Ewings because he can deal with Cameron's attitude problem.
In the novel, Somewhere in the Darkness, the main character Jimmy is hanging tough and holding his own in life. His father, Crab, shows up for the first time in nine years and wants Jimmy to visit his great aunt with him. What I really do not understand is why his father left Jimmy and why all of a sudden his Dad wants to take him half way around the country to a great aunt that Jimmy has never meet.
I really do not like the idea that Jimmy’s Dad all of a sudden wants to go on a long road trip with Jimmy. His dad is going to try to explain why he left nine years ago. If that was me I wouldn’t want to go. I would be so mad at him for leaving and not trying to see me for so long. A long trip like that would seem like forever. I also think that his dad deserves a little credit for making an effort to try to get to know Jimmy.
In the book "Cryer's Cross" it is really intresting so far. In the town of Cryer's Cross there is not many people. Kendall is the main character, in the school she makes sure that all the desks are strighted up and that the shades are pulled up. When all the students come in, ther is one girl missing. Tiffany, the town finds out that someone has murdered her. The town must move on without her. There are new kids at Cryer's Cross, one boy, one girl. The girl talks a little bit, but the boy dosen't talk at all. The reason why he dosen't talk is because the town is blaming him for the murder of tiffany.
What I don't understand why the town in blaming the new boy for the murder of tiffany. The family just got there, they don't even know anybody but yet the get blamed for murder. I don't think this is very fair to do to the kids. I think that they should have more evidence before they start assuming things. I don't think the new boy did this, it is all very strange.
The main character reminds me of my cousin because she is very curious about things. She also has to have everything neat and in order. Kendall wants to be friends with everybody, but I’m not sure that everybody wants to be friends with her. Kendall cleans up the room every morning to make sure that it is ready for the rest of the kids. Kendall always has a desk that she always sits in.
The character reminds me of myself because I like to be clean. Kendall loves to clean up the one room class, by herself even though there is already a janitor. Kendall is always the fist girl in the class, like me. I’m always early to my classes and nobody is there. Kendall also likes to sit in the same desk every day.
I think that David's drill sergeant was right when he put David on night watch. David started having nightmares from his childhood. I think he was having a lot of trauma issues because of what happened. His drill sergeant reminded David of his mom with the yelling. I think that David should have gone to some kind of counseling so he wouldn't have as many problems with that stuff.
I'm reading the book "Starclimber". In the part I am on Matt is being trained to be an astralnaut and is facing trials against one hundred other men. He is trying really hard to get to space.
ReplyDeleteIn "Love, Rosie.", the years have been going by in chunks.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading "Baking Cakes in Kigali" and it's about a women in Kigali who owns a bakery and is known around the country for her outstanding cakes.
ReplyDeleteBosco, Angel's friend came over to visit.

ReplyDeleteWell hello there guys and gals!
ReplyDeleteI am responding to Henry's 2nd post.
ReplyDeleteI like Dirk Pitt because he is adventurous and daring. Even though he is a scientist for NUMA, he is not afraid to get his hands dirty and save the day. I like him because he doesn't care what anyone thinks about him. He refuses to give up on finding the truth. He seems like an every day kind of guy I would hang out with in real life.
ReplyDeleteThe setting in the story is important because it is set in Topkapi, Turkey.
ReplyDeleteThe book "Shooter" is boring so far because there just intervewing Cameron to see why he and his friends shoot the people at school. The interviewer is trying to see why they would do such a thing. This scene reminds me of the Columbine shooting. I can't relate to this character because he is a bad guy and he shot up a school. The character I admire is Richard Ewings because he can deal with Cameron's attitude problem.
ReplyDeleteI have checked all journals up to this point.
ReplyDeleteIn the novel, Somewhere in the Darkness, the main character Jimmy is hanging tough and holding his own in life. His father, Crab, shows up for the first time in nine years and wants Jimmy to visit his great aunt with him. What I really do not understand is why his father left Jimmy and why all of a sudden his Dad wants to take him half way around the country to a great aunt that Jimmy has never meet.
ReplyDeleteI really do not like the idea that Jimmy’s Dad all of a sudden wants to go on a long road trip with Jimmy.
ReplyDeleteIn the book "Cryer's Cross" it is really intresting so far.
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't understand why the town in blaming the new boy for the murder of tiffany. The family just got there, they don't even know anybody but yet the get blamed for murder. I don't think this is very fair to do to the kids. I think that they should have more evidence before they start assuming things. I don't think the new boy did this, it is all very strange.
ReplyDeleteJournals are checked up to this point.
ReplyDeleteThe main character reminds me of my cousin because she is very curious about things. She also has to have everything neat and in order. Kendall wants to be friends with everybody, but I’m not sure that everybody wants to be friends with her. Kendall cleans up the room every morning to make sure that it is ready for the rest of the kids. Kendall always has a desk that she always sits in.
ReplyDeleteThe character reminds me of myself because I like to be clean. Kendall loves to clean up the one room class, by herself even though there is already a janitor. Kendall is always the fist girl in the class, like me. I’m always early to my classes and nobody is there. Kendall also likes to sit in the same desk every day.
ReplyDeleteChecked. Nicole, you can begin blogging on the other pages since you are caught up.
ReplyDeleteI think that David's drill sergeant was right when he put David on night watch. David started having nightmares from his childhood. I think he was having a lot of trauma issues because of what happened. His drill sergeant reminded David of his mom with the yelling. I think that David should have gone to some kind of counseling so he wouldn't have as many problems with that stuff.
